MIDDLE SCHOOL

It is plain to see that Emily was full of life and energy, and that continued during her two years at Floyd Light Middle School, and her time with the 3rd grader trapped in a teacher's body, Mr. Emery. She had met Mr. Emery in kindergarten, where he was a P.E. teacher, when she told him off for mispronouncing Soule. In middle school, she tinkered with his computer to the point that whenever he would press the spacebar, the computer played the Barney theme song. One story that especially stood out here was after Mr. Emery made the entire class participate in a tsunami drill, where students would have to duck under their chairs. Emily thought this was a complete waste of time. For revenge, for his birthday she got ahold of his phone number and placed a classified ad for his truck in the paper for a ridiculously low price. Mr. Emery received PLENTY of calls that birthday. On July 24, 1994, at Camp Tadmor, Emily recommitted her life to the Lord. This date was extremely important to her, as she placed her heart at the throne of Jesus Christ.

HIGH SCHOOL

Emily moved on to four years at David Douglas High School. Her adventurous spirit continued in track for four years and cross-country for three years. She became team captain for both squads her senior year, epitomizing her leadership skills and care for others. She played the clarinet in the band for two years. Freshman year she found the perfect acting role when, in the Wizard of Oz, she was a Munchkin, with purple hair and a green bow. In fact, she wanted to be in a musical every year, and cried when she found out she couldn't due to the small casts the next couple of years. However, she did find time to play a hippie in the One-Acts Emily's sophomore year.

Outside of school, Emily's faith in God grew, and she spent three years as a camp counselor at Trout Creek Bible Camp. Her very appropriate camp moniker? Sparkles.

Her sisters were very integral to Emily's life, whether she wanted them to or not. For example, when Bekah began to go to high school, Emily did NOT want to walk to school together. She would force Bekah to either leave 5 minutes before she was going to, or wait 5 minutes after she left. As for Jessica, when Emily was in 7th grade she had bought a dress from Goodwill for Halloween. Well, senior prom came around and Emily was going with a friend, and decided that, instead of spending a lot of money on a new dress, she would just wear the Goodwill dress. The night of the dance came, and when Emily's date came to pick Emily up, he overheard Jess loudly tell Dad that that was the Goodwill dress. Emily was mortified.

Also, on Emily's first Christmas break back home from college, the "older sister", the "boss", found that the two bedrooms had been split up between Bekah and Jessica. Well, that was just not going to work. She needed a single room all to herself, to have some time away from roommates. After much, well, dignified disagreements between the three sisters demonstrated through, well, screaming, etc., Emily ended up taking one of the bunks in Jessica's bunkbed.
